Property in Birkirkara, Malta

Birkirkara is the largest and most populated town in Malta. In recent years, this town has expanded further with the building of new and modern residences. In fact, a tiny a garden separates this new area from the traditional core which is characterised by alleyways, narrow streets and houses typical of small villages.

In Birkirkara, one can find the remains of a third class carriage of the Old Railway Station. The train used to follow a single line from Valletta to Rabat and was later extended to incorporate Mdina as well. After its closure in 1931, it was restored and the grounds were transformed into a public garden. Other places of interest in Birkirkara include St Helen’s basilica, one of the most beautiful churches on the Maltese islands, housing Malta’s largest bell, and the 17th century aqueducts built by Grandmaster Wignacourt to provide water for the new city of Valletta. Another mark of the old times in Birkirkara is the two windmills, one of which is a well-known art gallery.
